On June 30th, seven household in the community of Crique Sarco were under flood after it rained for an entire night. The elders of the community have never experienced such flooding before. About four feet of water was flowing through the houses of the residents. Not only were the seven families affected, but the entire comunity was cut off for a few days. The main road that connects Crique Sarco to Punta Gorda was also flooded making it difficult to get food supplies from Punta Gorda Town. In an effort to assess the ungency of the situation, we at SATIIM along with two Belize Defence Force soldiers travelled through the Temash river to reach the village. The river was about ten feet above normal level making it difficult to navigate through. The leaders of the community expressed that the urgent need of the community was clean drinking water and food for the families affected.
To assist the families affected, SATIIM donated a variety of food supplies and water to the families. Any contribution to the community will also be appreciated, since there will be need for housing materials for those that were affected.
